Reese Marketos is pleased to announce that the firm has elected Kendal Simpson and Jamison Joiner to its partnership effective Jan. 1, 2025.
Joiner and Simpson join a partnership with a collective 168 years of experience in jury trials, arbitrations, appeals, corporate investigations, and other high-stakes commercial litigation.
“Kendal and Jamison exemplify everything our firm stands for: They are exceptional lawyers and outstanding human beings,” said Joel Reese, the firm’s managing partner. “Their promotion to partner is well deserved and celebrated by the entire firm.”
Simpson, a 2008 magna cum laude graduate of Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law, leads the firm’s appellate practice, representing individuals and businesses in state and federal courts in a variety of matters, including fraud, breach of contract, the False Claims Act, negligence, and breach of fiduciary duty disputes. Simpson’s highest-profile appellate win came in 2013 when she prevailed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit for an insurance client that had been sued by T. Boone Pickens. Simpson handled oral argument as a fourth-year associate. Before leading that appeal, Simpson helped the trial team secure a summary judgment for the client that threw out $33 million in damages sought by Mr. Pickens. Currently, Simpson has one False Claims Act appeal in the Fifth Circuit and most recently orally argued another False Claims Act appeal in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. At a time when female advancement in the legal profession remains a challenge and a constant focus for Reese Marketos, Simpson joins the partnership ranks as a mother of four.
A father of four and a fellow SMU Mustang, Joiner graduated from Dedman School of Law in 2016 and represents businesses and individuals in high-stakes disputes. He has successfully litigated a wide array of cases, including contract, False Claims Act, business tort, trademark, trade secret, fraudulent transfer, nuisance, oil and gas, and antitrust matters. Never one to shy away from a complex dispute, Joiner has built a reputation of obtaining favorable results for his clients before juries and jurists – regardless of what the case is about – through trials, dispositive motions, injunctive relief, and settlements. In 2023, Joiner was named on Lawdragon’s 500 X – The Next Generation list, which recognizes young lawyers “who will define where the legal profession of our country goes.” Most recently, Joiner was named one of D Magazine’s 2025 Best Lawyers Under 40 and was featured in the 2025 edition of “Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch – Commercial Litigation,” which recognizes rising young commercial litigators who exemplify outstanding professional excellence in private practice.
“Our firm is lucky to have Kendal and Jamison as friends and partners, and they are a tribute to our profession,” said founding partner Pete Marketos.
