RM Hits Back at Misconduct Claims in False Claims Lawsuit

April 2, 2022

Former executives for laboratory companies True Health Diagnostics LLC and Boston Heart Diagnostics Corp. paid millions of dollars worth of kickbacks to conduct lucrative tests at a rural Texas hospital, the U.S. Department alleged in a False Claims Act lawsuit unsealed Monday. The complaint made allegations against several True Health employees including Christopher Grottenthaler. Grottenhaler asked the judge to dismiss the suit that alleged his involvement in the kickback scheme, claiming that the author of the book “Blood Money: One Man’s Bare-Knuckle Fight to Protect Taxpayers from Medical Fraud” filed qui tam litigation long before the Department of Justice joined the case. Andrew Wirmani, one of the attorneys for Grottenthaler, stated: “Whatever misconduct the government believes occurred did not involve my client. We are confident that the facts will demonstrate that he should have never been part of this lawsuit.”Read the motion to dismiss here.
